Established in 2017, a Hong Kong based Area28 company has raised $2.15m seed funding and is currently developing a cloud-based collaboration platform and game engine.
The platform is aimed to facilitate remote game development for teams working remotely, using an “engine agnostic cloud collaboration layer” for smooth workflow.
“We are enabling teams to work together closer and faster by removing decades of legacy workflow inefficiencies from the development pipeline… We allow teams to deliver their products with increased access to a distributed global workforce through a continuous integration development platform. We believe that making games should be as frictionless and as fun as playing games.”
Tony Zander, Area28 CEO
According to Cindy Chow, executive director of Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, the technology will add “significant value to the game development process.”
The investment led by Vectr Ventures and Alibaba Hong Kong Entrepreneurs Fund, as well as APES Ventures, Bright Success Capital, and Ironfire Ventures, will help grow the teams in Hong Kong and China.
Area28’s Content Development Suite (CDS) is ‘the first and only cloud-based game engine’ that combines service-oriented architecture with a high performance runtime engine. GDS sets itself apart by enabling real-time collaborative development for game developers working on the same project.
