Facebook has acquired PlayGiga, a cloud gaming developer based in Madrid. The deal totals 70 million euros, or 78 million USD.
Founded in 2013, PlayGiga had received Series A funding from Adara Ventures. According to company CEO Javier Polo the startup has been working with telecoms on a streaming game technology for 5G to reach mobile users and provided cloud services in Italy, Argentina, Chile, and Spain, with plans to launch in the Middle East. Using Intel Visual Cloud platform it has also developed a gaming-as-a-service platform, enabling telecoms and internet service providers to offer streaming games to their customers. As part of cloud gaming packages, the company had partnerships to offer over 300 games.
