Manticore Raises $15m From Epic Games

Funding will be used for the development of the Core software and getting it toward an official beta launch.

Manticore is a San Manteo, California-based gaming startup, which provides software that enables users to quickly build high-resolution multi-player desktop games and share it on the Core’s platform. The company was established by industry veterans from Electronic Arts, Blizzard, Respawn, Xfire, Roblox, Trion Worlds, Crystal Dynamics and Zynga.

It’s a new type of platform, where you have players congregating to create worlds together, to create a new form of entertainment. It’s a drastic departure from the traditional way games are made.

The Core itself is built with Epic’s Unreal Engine and now Manticore announces it has raised $15 million in a new round of funding, led by Epic Games. The main goal is to create the universe of user-created virtual worlds that are all interconnected on the Core’s platform. Manticore’s system is pretty similar to Roblox with that difference Core is a place to build games for teens and adults, with all the blood, cruelty and adventure storylines that typically go into those titles.

Manticore previously closed a $15 million Series A round led by Benchmark Capital in December 2017 and it raised a further $30 million in September 2019.
