The UK-based online soccer management game, Soccer Manager, has announced that it has secured an additional £3 million ($4.23 million) in a funding round. The funding round was led by Mercia Asset Management.
The company said the funding would be directed towards expanding its games into new markets through translating the game for users in the Middle East and the Far East and further develop its upcoming Soccer Manager 2022, slated for launch this autumn. Furthermore, the company will also be relaunching its original online multiplayer game, Soccer Manager World, by adding newer features and apps.
Andy Gore, CEO/Co-founder of Soccer Manager, said, “We founded Soccer Manager with a vision to create high-quality football games that the whole world could play. We have always had the view that football, mobile technology, and the internet is a powerful combination with which to achieve this vision.”
“After years of building out our IP, technology, and games to millions of people worldwide, this investment will help us further accelerate our current growth and deliver on our strategic ambitions,” Gore said.
Mercia has been the Soccer Manager’s long-standing partner and has managed funds for the game developer since 2013. Following this latest investment, Mercia will now control 46.6% of the company.
Julian Viggars, the chief investment officer of Mercia, said, “Soccer Manager is a great example of an innovative, regional business, which, with the determination of its founders, has scaled its recurring customer base and revenues to achieve high-quality games with a very loyal community.”
“The business was already on a strong growth trajectory before the pandemic, but with the increasing numbers of ‘at home gamers’ not expected to slow down, we anticipate that there is further significant potential in this asset,” Viggars commented.
Launched in 2004, Soccer Manager games have been downloaded over 50 million times in 234 countries, with more than one million active users each month. The September 2020 release of Soccer Manager 2021, has surged the studio’s revenues by 80%.
