Team17 has started the new year with an acquisition of Yippee Entertainment for around £1.4 million.
Yippee Entertainment is an independent developer based in Manchester. It will now become a wholly owned subsidiary of Team 17, working on both original game titles as well as franchises owned by Team17 and partners that publish their titles under its brand.
Mike Delves will continue as CEO of Yippee Entertainment and it will retain its team. The studio had previously developed Chimpact series, and titles for other publishers, such as Kalypso and Cartoon Network.
Currently under work is a remaster of the Commandos 2 HD for Kalypso.
Previously Team17 has acquired The Escapists’ developer Moldy Toof in 2016.
Team17 CEO Debbie Bestwick recognised that the publisher’s current strategy was working well enough without having to buy a lot of studios after the successful IPO.
Among Team17’s plans are obtaining more developers from the North West of England, so acquisition of Yippee Entertainment are a part of it.
