Indie game publisher tinyBuild isn’t done with its penchant for acquiring game studios. The US-based indie publisher has bought three indie game developers: We’re Five Gams, Moon Moose, and Hungry Couch. These acquisitions bring the publisher’s wholly-owned development studios to seven. No details of the three takeovers have been disclosed.
We’re Five Games, Moon Moose, Hungry Couch, are well-known in the indie gaming sphere for Totally Reliable Delivery Service, Cartel Tycoon, and Black Skylands, respectively. The three studios are already working with tinyBuild on current and upcoming projects.
“We believe that long-term thinking and long-term partnerships are the way to move forward for tinyBuild,” said tinyBuild CEO Alex Nichiporchik. “With We’re Five, Hungry Couch, and Moon Moose all joining the orange family, our new first-party studios will have access to tinyBuild’s resources and funding while maintaining full creative control.”
Headquartered in Minneapolis, We’re Five Games alongside tinybuild jointly developed Totally Reliable Delivery Service, a physics-based multiplayer game. Since its launch in April 2020, the game has surpassed 14 million downloads, according to tinyBuild. Now, as part of tinyBuild, We’re Five said it would work on an updated version of the game for Steam with a targeted release on April 1, 2021.
“In 2019, we spotted a web designer posting videos of a great-looking top-down shooter where you travel around floating islands. It was quite a shock to realize it was just one person working on it part-time, so we partnered up with the developer to deliver the original version of the game,” Nichiporchik commented. “Today, the team is 11 people working on what has scaled into an open-world RPG set in a world of floating islands.”
Meanwhile, Moscow-based Hungry Couch is already working with TinyBuild on soon-to-be-released open-world RPG Black Skylands for PC, slated for release this year.
And finally, Moon Moose, in St. Petersburg, is a five-person studio currently working on the upcoming Cartel Tycoon for PC, which is also due release in early 2021.
Founded in 2011, tinyBuild is an indie developer, created its first browser game, No Time to Explain, in 2013, and since then amassed a lineup of exciting yet unusual games, including Graveyard Keeper, Swag and Sorcery, and Party Hard. Prior to these three acquisitions, tinyBuild’s bought Guts & Glory developer HakJak Studios, Hologryph, the developer of Party Hard 2, and Hello Neighbor’s Netherlands-based studio, Eerie Guest.
